Yadea, one of the world's largest manufacturers of electric vehicles, officially launched its new factory in the Tan Hung Industrial Park (Bac Ninh province) on March 1st. Investments in the first phase of the project exceeded $100 million.
The factory covers an area of 232,200 sq. m. At the initial stage, its capacity will be 1 million electric motorcycles per year, and after reaching full capacity, it will exceed 2 million per year. The project will create approximately 1,000 jobs in the initial phase, with the potential to increase to 3,000 in subsequent stages.
On the opening day, the company signed a cooperation agreement with Grab Vietnam. The partnership aims to accelerate the transition to electric transport in the taxi and delivery segments. Grab drivers will receive benefits on the purchase of electric motorcycles and their maintenance.
The parties also agreed to develop a network of quick battery replacement stations. Instead of spending several hours charging, a driver can visit such a station and quickly swap a discharged battery for a fully charged one in just a couple of minutes. This format is very convenient for couriers and taxi drivers.
The Yadea Osta electric scooter became the flagship of the new line. It is designed for dense city traffic, travels up to 180 km on a single charge, is water-resistant, and is equipped with built-in GPS. The price starts from 27.5 million dong (approximately $1,100).
The opening of the Yadea factory significantly intensifies competition in the Vietnamese two-wheeled electric transport market. Local giant VinFast is also gaining momentum: on February 28th, the company received permission to build a new factory in Ha Tinh with a capacity of 1 million electric motorcycles per year, with the prospect of expansion to 2 million.
This activity by manufacturers is driven by strict environmental measures by the authorities. Starting July 1, 2026, a phased ban on the operation of gasoline motorcycles in central districts (inside Ring Road No. 1) will come into effect in Hanoi. By 2030, the restriction zone will expand to Ring Road No. 3, and all taxis and delivery services will be required to fully switch to electric transport or environmentally friendly fuels.
