On May 22, Vietnamese General Secretary To Lam met with David Zapolsky, Senior Vice President and General Counsel for Global Affairs and Legal at Amazon. During the discussions, the Vietnamese side emphasized that the country continues to improve its transparent legal system, strengthen intellectual property protection, and create favorable conditions for international technology companies.
To Lam noted that Vietnam highly values investments from major American corporations and is interested in long-term cooperation in high technology. According to him, the partnership should be built on the 'harmonization of interests' and bring practical benefits to businesses and residents of both countries.
The implementation of Resolution No. 57, a national program aimed at developing science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation, was also discussed. Vietnamese authorities expect Amazon to become a key partner in developing data infrastructure, artificial intelligence, cloud technologies, and training highly skilled professionals.
Amazon noted that it sees Vietnam's potential as one of the region's key technology hubs. According to David Zapolsky, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and Big Data are particularly promising areas for cooperation.
The company also confirmed long-term plans for developing digital infrastructure and human capital in Vietnam. On the same day, Amazon representatives held a working meeting with the country's Minister of Science and Technology.
Among the projects discussed were the launch of satellite internet via low-Earth orbit satellites, the expansion of the company's technological presence, and the development of manufacturing capabilities. Amazon also views Vietnam as a future production base for some of its products destined for global export.
In turn, Vietnam's Ministry of Science and Technology urged Amazon to invest more actively in digital and data infrastructure, foster cooperation with local IT companies, participate in technology transfer, and support the creation of a sustainable 'green' technology ecosystem.
