Vietnam is completing the first phase of construction of the new Long Thanh International Airport. The first technical flights are scheduled for December 15–19. They will allow testing the airport's operation in real-world conditions before its opening to passengers, which is planned for 2026.
Long Thanh is being built in stages. After the project is fully completed (by 2050), it will be able to handle up to 100 million passengers per year and will become the largest aviation hub in Southeast Asia. Long Thanh will be connected to Ho Chi Minh City by a high-speed highway and railway line.
December 19 will also be a day of massive infrastructure commissioning across the country. According to the Ministry of Construction, Vietnam is preparing to open more than 3,500 km of new highways, including almost 3,200 km of main routes and 325 km of access roads, as well as complete 1,700 km of coastal roads. In total, 245 groundbreaking or commissioning ceremonies will take place in 34 provinces on this day.
