A 1,881-Hectare Free Trade Zone Is Being Created in Da Nang

On June 16, 2025, the Prime Minister of Vietnam signed a decision to establish the Da Nang Free Trade Zone (FTZ). This is one of the key stages in transforming the city into a regional hub for economy, logistics, and digital technologies. The total area of the zone will be 1,881 hectares, making it the first project of this scale in Central Vietnam.

The Free Trade Zone will consist of seven geographically dispersed sites combining industrial clusters, innovation zones, commercial areas, and logistics hubs integrated with the Lien Chieu Port and Da Nang International Airport.

Functional Zones and Space Allocation

The FTZ project covers the following sites:

  • Sites 1 and 2: 100 and 77 ha — Hoa Hiep Bac ward, Lien Chieu district.
  • Site 3: 500 ha — Hoa Hiep Bac ward and Hoa Lien commune, Hoa Vang district.
  • Sites 4 and 5: 559 and 90 ha — Hoa Ninh commune, Hoa Vang district.
  • Site 6: 154 ha — Hoa Ninh and Hoa Nhon communes.
  • Site 7: 401 ha — Hoa Nhon and Hoa Phu communes.

All sites will be developed based on the principle of synergy between manufacturing, services, IT, and logistics, providing direct access to regional and international supply chains.

Goals and Development Directions

The project aims to transform the FTZ into:

  • A center for high-tech manufacturing and logistics with deep process digitalization.
  • A focal point of international trade linked to the Lien Chieu Port, airport, and the East-West Economic Corridor.
  • The region's largest innovation hub supporting the development of AI, semiconductors, Big Data, IoT, cloud solutions, and sustainable energy.
  • The FTZ will feature tax and administrative incentives, as well as simplified regulations for foreign companies, startups, R&D centers, and educational institutions.

Special attention will be paid to creating a favorable environment for:

  • tech companies and digital startups;
  • logistics operators and export-oriented manufacturing;
  • international educational and medical institutions;
  • business services, consulting, arbitration, e-commerce, and other providers.

Connection with Other Initiatives

The development of the FTZ will take place in sync with the creation of the Da Nang International Financial Center. These two projects are complementary: one is responsible for the real economy, while the other handles financial infrastructure. As a result, a powerful and competitive ecosystem aimed at the global market should be formed.

The zone will also become part of Da Nang's strategic development plan following its integration with Quang Nam province, reinforcing its significance as a central focal point for economic growth in Vietnam.

Investment Attractiveness

The Da Nang FTZ lays the foundation for:

  • an accelerated inflow of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI);
  • the development of high-yield real estate in border and industrial zones;
  • the creation of new growth drivers for commercial and residential development, especially near logistics and IT clusters;
  • public-private partnerships in infrastructure, energy, and innovation.

The project is part of Vietnam's strategy to strengthen the country's role in the global economy, transition to a digital growth model, and enhance its appeal to international business.
