Phu Quoc continues to increase its tourist influx. In the first eight months of 2026, the island welcomed 7.8 million tourists, which is 30.1% more than in the same period last year. Thus, Phu Quoc has already fulfilled 92% of its annual visitor target.
The growth in August was particularly noticeable. During the month, the island hosted about 1 million tourists, 28% more than a year earlier. At the same time, Phu Quoc is increasingly attracting international travelers. According to the provincial Department of Tourism, in the first seven months of the year, the island was visited by about 1.5 million foreign tourists, a 53% increase compared to the same period in 2025.
Demand growth was also noticeable during the five-day holidays on the occasion of Vietnam's National Day, which run from August 29 to September 2. Phu Quoc became one of the most popular destinations in the south of the country. According to tour operators, interest in trips to the island increased by about 60% this year.
One of the factors was the increased availability of flights. For the holiday period, airlines allocated nearly 1 million seats on key tourism routes in Vietnam, 10% more than a year earlier. At the same time, airfares to Phu Quoc for the holiday dates decreased by approximately 2.8–3.5 million VND compared to the same period in 2025.
Currently, a round-trip ticket from Ho Chi Minh City to Phu Quoc costs about 2.6 million VND ($99), and from Hanoi about 4.5 million VND ($171). A four-day tour with three nights and Vietnam Airlines flights starts at approximately 7.3 million VND ($280).
Recent statistics for the completed holidays confirm the high demand. During the five-day holiday, Kien Giang province welcomed over 580,000 tourists, about 40% more than a year earlier. About 26,800 of them were foreigners. Total tourism revenue for this period amounted to about 880.5 billion VND, an increase of more than 72% year-on-year.
Phu Quoc itself welcomed about 116,400 tourists during these five days, including over 26,200 international guests. Compared to last year's holidays, the total tourist influx to the island grew by about 43%, and the number of foreign tourists increased by almost 46%. The average hotel occupancy rate on Phu Quoc exceeded 62%.
At the same time, the holiday period took place against the backdrop of rainy weather, which is traditionally considered the low season for Phu Quoc. The main tourist season on the island runs from November to April, when drier and sunnier weather sets in. Despite this, the growth in domestic and international demand allows the island to maintain high occupancy rates and attract tourists year-round.
For 2026, Phu Quoc has set a target of welcoming 8.5 million tourists, including 2 million foreigners. Following 7.8 million visitors in the first eight months, the island needs about 700,000 more tourists to fulfill its annual plan.
