From January 1, 2026, Sun Group will become the operator of Phu Quoc International Airport. The company is among the largest private developers in Vietnam and is implementing a number of resort and tourism projects on the island.
Previously, Sun Group launched its own airline — Sun PhuQuoc Airways. The carrier was founded in January 2025, and made its first commercial flight on November 1, 2025. Currently, the airline operates domestic flights within Vietnam, and plans to launch international routes from 2026, including South Korea and Taiwan.
Simultaneously, the expansion of Phu Quoc International Airport continues. Its capacity is planned to be increased to approximately 20 million passengers per year, so that the island can accommodate more international flights and cope with the growth in passenger traffic.
Thus, Sun Group is simultaneously involved in air transportation, airport management, and the development of Phu Quoc's resort infrastructure. This format allows the island to be less dependent on third-party airlines, flight cancellations, or sharp fluctuations in ticket prices. In this model, the company's own airline makes the tourist flow stable and predictable.
A similar approach has already been applied in other major tourist centers, including Dubai, Macau, and the Maldives, where the development of air services directly supported the growth of resorts. According to the Centre for Aviation (CAPA), having its own air carrier, managing the airport, and developing resorts create conditions under which Phu Quoc could be on par with Bali or Phuket in the next ten years.
