The number of foreign-invested enterprises (FIEs) in Ho Chi Minh City grew by 41% over five years — the highest growth rate among all business categories. These figures are contained in the preliminary results of the city's 2026 economic census.
As of the end of 2025, there were 296,759 active enterprises in Ho Chi Minh City, up 17% compared to 2020.
A total of 14,032 companies with foreign capital operate in the city. Although they account for less than 5% of the total number of enterprises, their contribution to the economy remains significant.
In 2025, FIEs generated net revenue of over 3.86 quadrillion VND (around $148 billion), representing more than 31% of the total revenue of all enterprises in Ho Chi Minh City. Their asset volume reached nearly $215 billion — 65.5% higher than five years ago.
The increase in foreign-capitalized companies is accompanied by a growing inflow of foreign direct investment into the city. According to the Ho Chi Minh City Statistical Office, newly registered foreign investment reached $8.2 billion in 2025, an increase of 21.8% compared to the previous year.
In the first half of 2026, the figure reached $6.8 billion, more than double the result for the same period in 2025. Growth exceeded 114%.
Private enterprises continue to form the backbone of Ho Chi Minh City's business sector. In 2025, they accounted for 95.2% of all companies in the city — 282,416 enterprises. They held capital exceeding $431 billion and generated net revenue of $290 billion.
Additionally, there were 661,462 household businesses in Ho Chi Minh City, representing 12.6% of the total number of such entities in Vietnam. Most of them operate in wholesale and retail trade, as well as services, providing employment for over 1 million people.
