On April 27, a groundbreaking ceremony was held in Lam Dong province for the construction of the civilian section of Phan Thiet Airport. The project is being implemented with the participation of Sun Group and local authorities.
The total investment volume amounts to over 3.9 trillion VND (approximately $150 million). The airport is located in the Mui Ne area — one of Southern Vietnam's key tourist destinations.
The project covers an area of almost 75 hectares and will comply with 4E standards, allowing it to accommodate modern wide-body aircraft. In the first phase, the capacity will be up to 2 million passengers per year.
Phan Thiet Airport is a dual-use project (civilian and military) and occupies a total area of over 543 hectares. The military infrastructure has already been built and is used for training purposes.
The project moved to the construction phase just five months after the completion of investment procedures. The implementation period is approximately two years.
The launch of the airport will allow for a radical change in the region's transport logistics. Travel time from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, and other major cities in Vietnam will be significantly reduced.
In addition to serving regular domestic flights, the airport will be able to accommodate irregular international flights. This will provide foreign tourists direct access to the Mui Ne — Phan Thiet resort area, eliminating the need for long ground transfers.
It is expected that improved transport accessibility will be a powerful stimulus for economic growth and will enhance the region's investment appeal.
