According to Forbes' real-time ranking on April 5th, Vietnamese billionaire Pham Nhat Vuong has become the richest person in Southeast Asia with a fortune of $24.5 billion.
The chairman of Vingroup surpassed Indonesian entrepreneur Prajogo Pangestu, the founder of Barito Pacific. His wealth decreased from over $44 billion at the end of 2025 to $18.6 billion on April 5, 2026. The main reason is the fall in the company's stock by approximately 60% since the beginning of the year.
The businessman remains a key shareholder of Vingroup: he directly owns almost 389.9 million shares of the company, which is about 10.05% of the capital, and together with his family controls about 65%.
He became Vietnam's first dollar billionaire in 2013 with a fortune of $1.5 billion. Over the next 12 years, his capital increased more than 16 times.
Members of his family were also included in the Forbes billionaires list: Pham Thu Huong, his wife (with a fortune of about $2.5 billion) and her sister Pham Thuy Hang (with a fortune of about $1.8 billion).
