Ho Chi Minh City is preparing to launch five major projects between December 2025 and January 2026. These projects are part of the development of the expanded New Ho Chi Minh City agglomeration, formed in July 2025 after the merger of Ho Chi Minh City, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, and Binh Duong.
1. Ben Thanh - Can Gio High-Speed Rail Line
- Cost: VND 102 trillion (≈ $3.9 billion)
- Length: 54 km
- Start: December 19, 2025
- Completion: 2028
The high-speed line will connect the city center with the coastal district of Can Gio. Trains will reach speeds of up to 350 km/h. Residents of Ho Chi Minh City will be able to reach coastal resorts in just 20 minutes.
2. Metro Line No. 2 Ben Thanh - Tham Luong
- Cost: VND 47.8 trillion (≈ $1.81 billion)
- Start: January 2026
The project will expand the city's metro network and improve transport accessibility between the central districts and the northeastern part of Ho Chi Minh City.
3. Rach Chiec Sports Complex
- Cost: VND 92 trillion (≈ $3.49 billion)
- Area: 187 ha
- Completion: 2030
A modern sports complex will be built in the city, which should become a new landmark and strengthen Ho Chi Minh City's status as a center for sports and entertainment.
4. Can Gio Bridge
- Cost: VND 12.4 trillion (≈ $470 million)
- Length: 7.3 km
- Completion: 2028
The bridge will replace the congested Binh Khanh ferry and provide direct road communication between Ho Chi Minh City and Can Gio district. After the bridge opens, the travel time by car from the central districts of the city to Can Gio will be reduced to approximately one hour.
5. Phu My 2 Bridge
- Cost: VND 13 trillion (≈ $493 million)
- Length: 6.3 km
- Completion: 2028
The new bridge will provide another route between Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai province, improving transport connectivity across the Dong Nai River and relieving existing routes.
