Ho Chi Minh City plans to start construction on four new metro lines in the fourth quarter of 2026. The projects are part of an updated metro development plan aimed at creating a network of approximately 255 km by 2030.
The Binh Duong New City — Suoi Tien metro line, spanning over 32 km, will require approximately $2.18 billion in investment. It will pass through seven urban districts.
The Thu Dau Mot — Ho Chi Minh City metro line, measuring about 35 km in length, will connect Binh Duong with central Ho Chi Minh City. It is planned to feature 24 stations, with a preliminary investment volume of around $4.68 billion. The line will pass through 18 urban districts.
Metro Line No. 6 will connect Tan Son Nhat International Airport with the Phú Hữu area. Its length will be nearly 23 km, including an underground section of about 19 km. The line will include 17 stations, with an estimated preliminary cost of $3.43 billion.
The fourth project is the northwestern section of Metro Line No. 2, covering approximately 30 km. Preliminary investment is estimated at $3.37 billion.
Construction of sections of Metro Line No. 2 Ben Thanh — Tham Luong and Ben Thanh — Thu Thiem has already begun. Once completed and integrated, Line No. 2 will form a transit corridor from the southeast to the northwest of the city, which is expected to drive the development of new urban areas and satellite cities.
In total, Ho Chi Minh City has identified eight priority urban railway lines with a total length of about 255 km scheduled for completion by 2030. The plan aligns with the objectives of Resolution No. 09-NQ/TW on the construction and development of Ho Chi Minh City.
Additionally, another seven lines and sections are planned for implementation by 2035. Their total length will be around 277 km, bringing the total length of the urban rail network to 532 km.
The list includes Metro Line No. 4 along the Dong Thanh — Hiep Phuoc section, Metro Line No. 3 along the Tao Dan — An Ha section, Metro Line No. 5 Da Phuoc — Long Truong, Phase 2 of Metro Line No. 6, Metro Line No. 7 Tan Kien — Vinhomes Grand Park, the Metro Line No. 1 section Ben Thanh — An Ha, as well as the extension of Metro Line No. 3 toward Vung Tau, Ba Ria, and Phu My.
