On April 29, Ho Chi Minh City simultaneously launched four major infrastructure and urban development projects and officially approved the investor for the international transit port in Can Gio. The launch coincides with the 51st anniversary of the country's reunification.
Key projects are concentrated in the new Thu Thiem urban area and are aimed at developing transportation, public spaces, and urban infrastructure.
Construction has commenced on the 6 km Ben Thanh - Thu Thiem second metro line. It will connect the city center, Thu Thiem, Tan Son Nhat Airport, and the future Long Thanh Airport. Construction is planned to be completed by Q4 2030.
Also in Thu Thiem, construction has begun on a central square and administrative complex spanning nearly 47 hectares. The project, valued at approximately $1.1 billion, includes a 30-story administrative building, a 2,000-seat opera house, and a park with a 12-hectare central lake. The complex will serve as a new venue for key urban and cultural events.
Another project is the renovation of the Ho Chi Minh Museum. Work is expected to be completed by August 2026.
In the northwest of the city, construction has officially begun on the International University Urban Area, covering approximately 880 hectares. The total investment is estimated at $2.2 billion.
On the same day, city authorities approved the investor for the international transit port in Can Gio. The $4.7 billion project will span 571 hectares and be implemented in two phases. By 2030, the port will be capable of handling up to 4.8 million TEU (standard containers). It is positioned as a "green" logistics hub, capable of strengthening Vietnam's role in global supply chains.
According to Nguyen Van Duoc, Chairman of the City People's Committee, the simultaneous launch of these projects reflects a commitment to accelerated infrastructure development, urban expansion, and an improved quality of life. Authorities also pledged to support investors throughout all implementation stages and minimize administrative barriers.
Thus, Ho Chi Minh City is taking another step towards becoming a regional and international metropolis with a modern transportation system, a developed urban environment, and a robust economic foundation.
