Phu Quoc Island has been selected as the host venue for the APEC Summit 2027 — one of the decade's largest international economic events. The event is expected to attract leaders from 21 Asia-Pacific economies and serve as a powerful catalyst for the development of infrastructure, tourism, and the investment climate in southern Vietnam.
As part of the preparations for the summit, the Government of Vietnam has approved a large-scale program for the infrastructure modernization of Phu Quoc. Key initiatives include:
- Expansion of Phu Quoc International Airport, increasing its capacity to 10 million passengers per year.
- Construction of new five-star hotels and convention centers.
- Reconstruction of the road network and development of water supply, power supply, and digital infrastructure systems.
- Beautification of promenades, beaches, and public spaces in key tourist zones.
- According to preliminary estimates, total investment in the island's infrastructure development could exceed 8 billion US dollars.
Hosting APEC 2027 is designed to solidify Phu Quoc's status as one of Southeast Asia's leading tourism and business hubs. Forecasts indicate the summit will provide a long-term boost to tourist traffic, the hotel and resort market, and foreign investment in the real estate sector.
Authorities emphasize that priority will be given to projects meeting sustainability criteria, including environmental standards and energy-efficient technologies.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam, preparations for the summit will be not only an infrastructure effort but also a brand-building project: the goal is to present Vietnam as a modern, dynamically developing nation actively cooperating with global economies.
