Construction of a new 135,000-seat stadium began in Hanoi last week. In terms of capacity, it will become the largest stadium in the world.
The new arena will be named "Trong Dong" and will become part of the Olympic Sports Urban Area. The total investment volume for the development of this zone is estimated at 925 trillion VND (around 38 billion US dollars).
The stadium itself will cover an area of 73 hectares, while the total area of the entire complex will be 411 hectares. In addition to the main arena, additional sports and infrastructure facilities are planned on the territory.
The project was designed in accordance with international requirements for hosting the world's largest sporting tournaments, including the Olympic and Asian Games. Construction completion is scheduled for August 2028.
For comparison: the largest operating stadium in Vietnam today holds about 40,000 spectators. The new facility will be almost three and a half times larger in terms of capacity.
It is expected that the appearance of a 135,000-seat stadium will allow Vietnam to bid to host the FIFA World Cup and other major competitions, as well as serve as a serious boost for the development of sports within the country.
