Tran Luu Quang, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, announced that as early as July 2026, the city plans to simultaneously launch several major infrastructure projects with a total investment exceeding $10 billion.
He made this announcement on May 11 during a meeting with residents of Ho Chi Minh City districts, alongside a delegation from the Vietnamese National Assembly.
One of the key projects will be the Thu Thiem – Long Thanh railway line, which is set to connect the new Thu Thiem business hub with Long Thanh International Airport. According to Tran Luu Quang, the development of transport connectivity will be the foundation for the city's future economic growth, especially after the expansion of the Ho Chi Minh City agglomeration and strengthening ties with Binh Duong and Ba Ria-Vung Tau.
"Only through the full integration of infrastructure can the full potential and scale of modern Ho Chi Minh City be unlocked," noted the Secretary of the City Party Committee.
In addition to new projects, authorities have also revisited the topic of the city's largest flood protection project, valued at approximately 10 trillion VND (~$390 million), which had been frozen for almost seven years. City authorities now intend to resume work on the project and complete it by the end of 2026.
Separately, Tran Luu Quang stated that in the central and already congested districts of Ho Chi Minh City, plans are to restrict the construction of new high-rise residential complexes in the future. According to him, large residential projects should be developed outside the congested center and be accompanied by the construction of transport infrastructure.
Authorities also reported that large land plots in the central part of the city will primarily be used for public spaces and parks.
